Flemington, NJ - Sophomore
DOM LAMPASONA launched a deep home run however it wouldn't be enough as Montclair State's fell to Oneonta, 6-2 at Diamond Nation baseball complex on Tuesday.
In their first game back home from the RussMatt Baseball Invitational in Florida, the Red Hawks were forced to play on neutral ground due to unplayable field conditions at Yogi Berra Stadium following recent snowstorms. Leadoff hitter Brandon Torres greeted MSU with a leadoff triple, the first of his four hits to lead the Red Dragon offense. James Ceparano also tallied multiple hits for Oneonta.
The Red Dragons' Johnny Wholestaff approach worked well, as five pitchers combined to hold Montclair to four hits. None threw more than two innings. Thomas Bond, the starter, picked up the win to improve to 2-1. MSU starter
CONNOR LINDSAY went 5.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out seven. He fell to 1-2 with the loss.
Lampasona's towering shot came in the fourth inning and was the Red Hawks' first hit of the day. Montclair State scored again in the sixth when a bases loaded wild pitch allowed
JOE FOOTE to score from third base.
IAN LYNCH. Phil Scott and
JOE NORTON also had hits for Montclair.
Montclair State returns to action on Thursday, March 23 heading back to Diamond Nation to face Moravian College at 6:00 pm.
