Montclair, NJ - A seventh inning rally featuring RBIs from
RYAN LONG and
BRODY LABBE proved to be the difference in a tight 2-1 Montclair State win over Lehman College.
The MSU bullpen provided a huge boost for the Red Hawks. Closer
TAYLOR PARSONS escaped a jam in the ninth inning to shut the door and earn his first save of the year, and
JAY GORMAN picked up the win with two scorless innings.
Montclair's offense was relatively quiet until the seventh inning when
JOE NORTON singled to left field, and
RYAN THIEME reached behind him with a bunt single.
SEBASTIAN SEVERIO walked to load the bases, and Long brought in the first run with a single. Labbe's RBI came on a fielder's choice that allowed Thieme to score from third. The lone run for the Lightning came in the sixth on a Carlo Francisco single that scored Jeffrey Ledesma.
MATT LONG started the game for MSU. He went 5.2 innings and allowed one run on three hits, two walks and four strikeouts. Gorman's outing was his first of the year after missing the start of the season with an injury. He struck out five of the eight batters he faced.
Starter Jose Albrincole took the loss for Lehman. He went seven innings and allowed five hits and two walks while striking out one. Both runs were charged to him, and he is now 0-3.
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday at 11:30 with a doubleheader at Stockton University, their first NJAC contest of the season.
