MONTCLAIR, NJ - Montclair State University was defeated in both ends of a double-header by The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon, 9-3 and 10-4.
Prior to game one, the Red Hawks celebrated Senior Day and honored the team's seniors for their many contributions to the baseball program.Â
TCNJ used only three pitchers on the day. Game one starter Joe Cirillo improved to 3-0 with his complete-game effort, in which he allowed three runs (only one earned). Game two starter Michael Fischer went eight innings and allowed four runs (three earned), and was relieved by Zac deRocco, who contributed a scoreless frame to seal the win.Â
The Lions scored first in the first game of the afternoon on a Zachary Shindler that knocked in two runs in the third. The Red Hawks answered in the sixth by taking the lead on RBI hits from Ryan Theime and Phil Scott, byt TCNJ would score six in the seventh and two in the ninth to put the game away. Shindler totaled six RBIs in the game, while he, CJ Gearhart and Mike Follet would all contribute multiple hits.Â
Game two began with a Lions run in the first, and TNCJ put up a seven-spot in the third to put the game out of reach early. Gearhart added a ringing home run to left-center in the sixth. MSU rallied late with an RBI double from Scott in the sixth, and RBIs from
KYLE MISSRY,
JIMMY FASANO and
BRODY LABBEÂ in the 8th, but was unable to overcome the early deficit.
SEBASTIAN SEVERIOÂ had two hits in the game, and
CONNOR KELLY collected two hits off the bench after entering in the eighth.
Montclair State is now 9-17 on the season, and 3-7 in conference play.Â
The Red Hawks will return to action at Yogi Berra Stadium on Monday at 3:30 to take on Alvernia University.Â
