Long Goes Yard, Drives in Three as Baseball Downs Stevens, 14-11

Red Hawks Sink Ducks in Hoboken

Hoboken, NJ – Senior rightfielder belted a three-run homer while three other Red Hawks drove in two runs as Montclair State won a slugfest against Stevens at Dobbelaar Field on Wednesday afternoon, 14-11.

RYAN THIEME, CHRIS ROTH and JESSE BAIZA all had two RBI as the Red Hawks scored in each of the first six innings to improve to 14-19 on the season in their final non-conference contest of the year.

Thieme gave MSU a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single and Montclair added four more in the second for a 5-0 lead. JIMMY FASANO had an RBI ground out before Long launched an opposite field three-run shot to right field.

After the Ducks (16-19-1) got two in the second, the Red Hawks scored five in the third. Roth had the big hit a two-run double that helped MSU to a 10-2 advantage. But Stevens responded with a five-run inning of its own bringing the lead to 10-7.

Baiza pushed the lead back five with a two-run single in the fourth and JOE FOOTE scored on a passed ball in the fourth for a 13-7 lead. Lampasona also came home on a passed ball in the sixth for the final MSU run.

Stevens closed the gap to 14-10 in the sixth and added one more in the ninth for the final margin.

Lefthander MAX MAARLEVELD (2-1) got the win in relief as he pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief striking out four and giving up two hits. Stevens starter Bridger Cohen (0-1) took the loss for the Ducks.
Foote had two hits for the Red Hawks.  

Montclair now turns its attention to New Jersey Athletic Conference play for its final four games of the regular season. MSU begins a home-and-home set with Ramapo College on Thursday, April 27 at 3:30 pm in Mahwah, NJ. The two teams meet again on Friday, April 28 at Yogi Berra Stadium before MSU takes on Rutgers-Newark in a doubleheader at Patriots Park in Somerset, NJ on Saturday, April 29 at 11:30 am.
