GRACE NIELSEN posted an NCAA qualifying mark in the 1-meter diving event highlighting Montclair State's season opening meet against Seton Hall University at the Panzer Pool on Friday evening.
MADISON FRANKE won a pair of events for the Red Hawks, who fell to the Pirates 141-96. Meanwhile the MSU dropped a 134-66 decision to its Big East foe.
Nielsen, who took part in last year's NCAA Regional meet, finished second in the 1-meter posting a score of 265.41 reaching the qualifying standard for this year's regional. Nielsen would also place second in the 3-meter event with a score of 242.47.
Franke took the top spot in the 50 and 100 freestyles with times of 25.00 and 55.27 seconds respectively. She then swam the anchor leg on the 200 medley relay team that placed second.

MARGAUX WINCHOCK and Franke combined on a time of 1:52.30.
Luigard was also a winner capturing the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:11.37 and the 400 freestyle team of
ERIANNA NGUYEN,
TAYLOR WADDLETON,
DANI ZIMMERMAN and
CHRISTINA CUSMANO claimed first in that event posting a time of 3:53.51.
Rothamel finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:02.40) and third in the 200 freestyle (2:04.20). Waddleton was third in the 1000 freestyle (11:17.27) and fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:34.21) with Winchock claiming third in the 100 butterfly (1:00.71).
For the men,
KEVIN GIBSON was a winner in the 500 freestyle (5:06:03) with
KEVIN CLAUSS taking the same spot in the 100 beaststroke (1:02.44). Gibson was fourth in the 1000 freestyle (10:27.72) with
HUNTER ROMANOWSKI placing third in both the 200 freestyle (1:48.68) and 100 freestyle (49.13).
Kevin Hennigsen was third in the 100 butterfly (55.60) and
JAMES SINGEWALD earned the same spot in the 100 backstroke (55:43). Gibson, Gregory Karback, Lazaro Vadles and
CHARLES COBBERTT won the 400 freestyle relay clocking in at 3:25.09.
The Red Hawks are back in action next Friday, October 19 hosting Monmouth University at 4:00 pm.
