NICK MARTINEZ and freshman
ANDREW OLLWERTHER each homered in the opener as the Montclair State baseball team split a doubleheader with Mary Washington University on Saturday.
Martinez drove in four runs and Ollwerther two as the Red Hawks (2-1) outslugged the Eagles (2-2) 12-6 in the first game before falling in the second contest, 2-1. The two teams wrap up their four-game series on Sunday, February 25 at 1:00 pm.

HAYDEN REYES followed with an RBI single with Martinez plating two more on a base hit to left field that scored both Norton and Reyes.
The Red Hawks would give all that back plus one more run in the third as three errors in the inning led to a six-run outburst that put Mary Washington on top 6-5. MSU regained the lead in the fourth with four runs coming on a pair of long balls. Martinez blasted a two-run shot making the score 7-6 and three batters later, Ollwerther recorded his first collegiate dinger, a two-run homer, extending the lead to 9-6.
Kelly tacked on an RBI single in the sixth with
BRIAN OBLACHINSKI adding a sacrifice fly for an 11-6 lead.
IAN LYNCH accounted for the final Montclair State run in the seventh with an RBI single that brought home Norton, who walked to open the inning.
Righthander
MICHAEL MANFRA (1-0) got the victory going the first five innings. Manfra allowed seven hits and struck out four giving up six unearned runs.
BRIAN REISS closed out the game striking out two in his two innings of work.
Norton, Martinez, Lynch and Kelly had two hits apiece for MSU.
In the second game, runs would be hard to come by as the Eagles gained a split scoring the game-winning run on a single in the bottom of the seventh.
Catcher
JUSTIN BATES gave Montclair a 1-0 lead in the third with a sacrifice fly that scored
KYLE MISSRY. Mary Washington tied the game in the fourth before winning the contest in the seventh.
Senior righthander
AUSTIN MINTON (0-1) took the loss in relief. Freshman lefthander
NICK COCCHIA made a solid debut for the Red Hawks going 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and one run. Coacchia struck out five and walked three.
Missry had two of Montclair State's three hits in the contest.
