NICK MARTINEZ had four hits and two RBI while freshman
ANDREW OLLWERTHER drove in two runs in the second game as Montclair State swept a doubleheader from Oneonta at Bard College's Honey Field on Saturday.
The Red Hawks (10-4) knocked off the Red Dragons (6-4), 6-2 in the opener before completing the sweep with a 4-1 victory in the second game.
Oneonta took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the opener as Dalton Beatty singled to right field driving home Brandon Torres with the game's first run. Montclair matched that in its half of the inning as Martinez bounced into a fielder's choice that scored
JOE NORTON tying the game at 1-1.
MSU would take the lead in the fourth with two runs. Ollwerther led off with a single and went to third on a double by
AIDAN SUPP.
HAYDEN REYES singled in the infield scoring Ollwerther with Supp scoring two batters later on an RBI single to right by Roth giving Montclair a 3-1 advantage.
After Oneonta got a run back in the sixth, Montclair scored twice in the bottom of the inning taking advantage of a pair of Red Dragon errors for a 5-2 lead. Norton scored the final run in the eighth on a double-play grounder.
BRIAN REISS got the victory as he moved to 2-0. Reiss went the first 5 2/3 innings allowing three hits and two runs (one earned) with four strikeouts and three walks. Righthander
ANTHONY DEBLASIO (two strikeouts) tossed 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief with
AUSTIN MINTON pitching a clean ninth to close out the game.
Roth was 3-for-3 at the plate with Norton, Ollwerther and Reyes each collecting two hits.
Montclair would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap. Roth singled in the infield with one out and scored on a triple to right field by Martinez, who scored on Ollwerther's sacrifice fly.
Laventure homered to lead off the Red Dragon second cutting the lead to 2-1 however the Red Hawks answered that with two runs in the third as it took full advantage of two Oneonta errors.
Righthander
MICHAEL MANFRA (3-1) got the victory as he went the first 5 2/3 innings. Manfra allowed five hits, a run, struck out six and walking two. Minton quelled a threat in the sixth and pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn his third save of the season.
Martinez was 3-for-3 for the Red Hawks.
Montclair State is scheduled to be in action on Tuesday, March 20 against College of Staten Island with first pitch set for 3:30 pm.
