Montclair, NJ – On a night in which it honored its 1993 national championship team, Montclair State used the same formula that squad perfected so well in a 12-5 win over New Jersey City University at Yogi Berra Stadium on Friday evening.
NICK MARTINEZ went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI while righthander
CONNOR LINDSAY pitched seven solid innings as the Red Hawks (17-13, 5-6 NJAC) snapped a five-game losing streak while taking the first game of its home-and-home series with the Gothic Knights (17-12, 5-6 NJAC). The two teams will meet again on Sunday, April 22 in Jersey City, NJ beginning at 11:30 am.
Lindsay improved to 5-2 on the season as he scattered eight hits and allowed three runs – two earned with seven strikeouts and two walks. Lefthander Mike Ramirez (2-2) took the loss for NJCU.
Montclair gave Lindsay run support right away in the first inning with two runs. Martinez singled through the left side for the game's first run and sophomore

ANDREW OLLWERTHER for the 2-0 lead.
Ramirez helped his own cause in the second with an RBI to cut the margin to 2-1 however MSU got that back in its half as catcher
JUSTIN BATES scored from second after a pickoff attempt at first base went awry. Bates would ignite a four-run third as the Red Hawks broke the game open. He singled home two runs with second baseman
AIDAN SUPP adding two more on a base hit extending the lead to 7-1.
The Red Hawks tacked on four more in the sixth for a nine-run advantage. Supp scored on a wild pitch and Martinez infield single allowed
JOE NORTON to come home with a run. Reyes crossed the plate on another wild pitch and Ollwerther lofted a sacrifice fly giving the Red Hawks an 11-2 lead.
Reyes provided the final run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
Supp finished 2-for-4 for the Red Hawks, who collected 12 hits in the contest.
Montclair State will be in action on Saturday, April 21 with another NJAC contest. The Red Hawks host Rutgers-Camden in a doubleheader at Yogi Berra Stadium beginning at 11:30 am.
