Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams split their dual meet at Drew University on Saturday. The women (1-0) picked up the first win of the season with a 147-133 victory while the men suffered a 165-112 loss to the Rangers.
The relay team of
EMILY ROTHAMEL,
CLAIRE LUIGARD,
MARGAUX WINCHOCK and
MADISON FRANKE set the tone for the women's team with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet touched the wall in 1:52.24 to beat the Rangers relay team by four seconds.
Rothamel and Franke each picked up individual wins on the opening night. Rothamel won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.66 as Franke had a winning time of 25.35 in the 50-yard freestyle.
Two Red Hawks finished in the top two of the 100-yard breast stroke. Luigard recorded a winning time of 1:12.58, beating out
JACQUELINE GRAYSON who finished second after touching the wall in 1:17.88.
HANNAH GOLDHABER won the 1-meter dive with a 197.20. All three Red Hawk divers scored over 100 in the win. Luigard and Rothamel each won multiple individual events as Luigard also took home a first-place finish in the 200-yard breast stroke with a time of 2:38.15. Rothamel won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:16.19
For the men,
TYLER DORSETT dominated the 1000-yard freestyle with a winning time of 10:34.80. He finished 14 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Dorsett picked up his second win of the evening after touching the wall in 2:02.04 in the 200-yard butterfly.
Freshman
SAMUEL GOLOVIN won two events in his collegiate debut. He won the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly on Friday night.
KEVIN GIBSON was the final Red Hawk to win an event and recorded a 22.73 in the 50-yard freestyle to win the event.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Friday, October 18 when it faces Monmouth and Seton Hall in South Orange, NJ.
