Auburndale, FL – The Montclair State baseball team came up short in its comeback bid against Keystone College as the Red Hawks fell to the Giants 5-3 at the RussMatt Invitational on Monday afternoon.
MSU (3-2), fell to 1-2 on its Florida trip. Montclair continues its trip on Wednesday, March 13 taking on Gordon College at 1pm.
Keystone took a 3-0 lead in the second as McFadden drove in the first two runs with an single and Carlini followed with an RBI. Panzarella extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth with McFadden adding a third RBI in the inning for the five-run advantage.
Montclair State would get all its runs in the fifth inning.
HAYDEN REYES, the NJAC Player of the Week, drove home
BRODY LABBE with a base hit and
DANIEL CLEMENTE walked with the bases loaded making the score 5-2.
NICK MARTINEZ added a sacrifice fly cutting the lead to two runs however that would be as close as the Red Hawks would get.
Christopher Adams picked up the victory as he went the first five innings. Jordan Montes allowed a hit with six strikeouts over the final four innings to record his first save of the year.
JONATHAN ANDERSON (0-1) took the loss for MSU.
PETER COSENTINO went 3-for-4 for Montclair State.
