Baseball Rallies, Walks Off Against Manhattanville in Extras, 8-7

Forcini Wins its for Red Hawks, Martinez 5-for-5

Montclair, NJ –Freshman outfielder KYLE FORCINI drove in the game-winning run with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning as Montclair State rallied for an 8-7 victory over Manhattanville College in its home opener at Yogi Berra Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior NICK MARTINEZ went 5-for-5 with three RBI including a home run as the Red Hawks (5-4) won their second straight contest. Jack Matero had a home run and two RBI for the Valiants (4-5).

The Red Hawks led 6-3 heading into the top of the ninth when Manhattanville struck for four runs to take its first lead of the game. Peter Iannarilli singled in the first run and Stephen Merrill followed with an RBI double making the score 6-5. Luke Tebolt doubled up the gap in right-center scoring two more as the Valiants moved in front.

Martinez, who recorded the first five-hit game by an MSU player since 2015, tied the game in the bottom of the inning as he drilled the second pitch over the left field wall, his first of the season and a 7-7 tie.

Reliever JUSTIN SILVA pitched a scoreless 10th setting the stage for the bottom of the inning when the Red Hawks would win the game. HAYDEN REYES doubled down the left field line putting the winning run in scoring position. Dominick Leuizzi sacrifice Reyes to third bringing Forcini to the plate. He would get ahead 2-1 in the count before drilling a pitch into the right field for the game-winning run.

Silva picked up the win moving to 2-0 on the year. NICHOLAS SEFICK went the first six innings allowing four hits and an unearned run. MATT PICKUS struck out five in two innings of relief.

Montclair goes right back to work on Wednesday, March 20 traveling to Bethlehem, PA for a 4:00 pm matchup at Moravian College.
