Montclair, NJ – Neumann University's Joe Nepi belted a two-run homer run with Colin Pollard and Curt Yenchik each driving in a pair of runs as the Knights used two big scoring innings in a 10-3 victory over Montclair State at Yogi Berra Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Phil Sanborn pitched into the ninth inning as Neumann scored four times in the first and added six in the sixth to improve to 8-9 on the season. Freshman first baseman PETER COSENTINO launched a three-run homer for the Red Hawks (6-7).

John Schoelkopf doubled to open the game and John Lindeborn was hit by a pitch. Following an out, Yenchick doubled to center bringing in both runners for a quick 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Nepi blasted a two-run shot over the right field fence helping the visitors to the four-run lead.

Montclair State cut that deficit to a run three hitters into its first at bat. JOE NORTON led off with a single and MATTHEW MANNING reached on an infield hit. Cosentino then ripped a three-run shot down the right field line making the score 4-3.

But that would be as close as MSU would get as Sanborn (1-1) settled in scattering seven hits while striking out eight as he came within two outs of a complete game. John Lindeborn finished off the contest fanning one.  NICHOLAS SEFICK (0-2) took the loss for the Red Hawks.

Leading by a run, Neumann added six runs in the sixth. Tyler Ramos lofted a sacrifice fly and Schoelkopf singled home a run. Pollard capped off the inning with a two-run single.

Manning and NICK MARTINEZ had two hits apiece for Montclair State.

The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, March 27 at home against DeSales University. First pitch at Yogi Berra Stadium is set for 3:30 pm.
