Montclair, NJ – Senior
GEORGE ALEXANDRIS added another honor to his already impressive resume as he was named the Atlantic Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year on Wednesday. Alexandris becomes the first Montclair State athlete to be named an indoor Regional Athlete by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The 2018 NCAA Outdoor national champion in the long jump, Alexandris has put together one of the best indoor seasons in recent memory. Named the NJAC Outstanding Male Athlete for 2019, Alexandris broke the MSU record three times and currently holds the No. 2 distance in Division III as he heads into this weekend's NCAA Division III Championships in Boston.
Alexandris has captured the long jump in all seven events he has competed in this indoor season. Starting with his first at the Monmouth University OceanFirst Bank Center (7.33 meters), he increased that mark to 7.46 meters at the Uitca College Pioneer Open on January 26. Following victories at the DeSchriver Invitational and Monmouth College Invitational, Alexandris claimed the NJAC championship with a leap of 7.42 meters breaking the conference meet record that stood for 17 years.
Last weekend, Alexandris, a three time NJAC Field Athlete of the Week selection, earned his seventh win of the year at the All-Atlantic Region Championships in Ithaca, NY. He leaped 7.48 meters, breaking his school record in addition to firmly establishing himself at No. 2 on the NCAA Performance List.
Not only has Alexandris excelled in the long jump, he is currently No. 2 on the NCAA list for the 200 meters which he will also compete in at the NCAA Championships. That includes four victories in the event and a best time of 21.64 seconds set at the NJAC Championship.
