REPRESENTING THE RED HAWKS
Eight student-athletes are set to compete for the Red Hawks this weekend.
The duo of
JAYSON ELLIS and
JAHMIR BEAL will race in the 60-meter dash. Ellis is coming off the first medal in the 60-meter dash in program history at the NJAC Championships with his bronze finish of 6.94. Despite the medal finish, both racers ran faster preliminary times at the conference-championship meet. Beal ran a 6.88 (program record) for the fourth fastest time in the region. Ellis was right behind him in fifth with a time of 6.91. They will look to dethrone TCNJ's Maxim Rychkov, who at the NJAC Championships, clocked a gold medal and top regional time of 6.72.
Ellis and Beal are also set to join
JESSE BAIDOO and
ELIAS HANLEY in the 4x200 relay at regionals. The quartet's best time this season came at the NJAC Championships, clocking 1:28.74 for fourth place.
SHELDON AGYEMANG and
CHRIS SCOTT will serve as alternates in the event, should they be needed.
HIVEN BIFFOT returns to the regional championships to defend his triple jump championship, which he won last season with a jump of 14.82m (48' 6.25"). He has since surpassed that distance with a mark of 15.11m (49' 7"), which ranks third in the region and third in the nation. He will have tough competition, however, squaring off with Widener's Matayo McGraw, who is the favorite with the nation and region's top jump of 15.62m (51' 3").
JALEN BALBUENA earned a trip to the regional championships in his first season as a Red Hawk in the long jump. Balbeuna's best jump came at the NJAC Championships, where he marked 7.16m (23' 6"), which was good for fourth place and is the fourth-best mark in the region this season. Rowan's Anthony Parker is the headliner in the event with a region-best distance of 7.62m (25' 0") that he picked up at the Fastrack National Invite on February 6.
