Union, NJ – Kean University's Mike Perone doubled home two runs and Frank LoGiudice added a run-scoring single as the Cougars scored three times in the eighth inning for 9-7 victory over Montclair State at Jim Hynes Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
LoGiudice went 3-for-4 and also pitched the first 6 1/3 innings as the late-inning rally helped Kean (23-11, 9-3 NJAC) sweep the home-and-home series with the Red Hawks (10-21, 1-11 NJAC).
BRODY LABBE and
JUSTIN BATES each drove in a pair of runs for the Red Hawks.
MSU led 2-1 after five innings however Kean scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-2 advantage. LoGiudice scored on a throwing error off a sacrifice and Brandon Johannessen's squeeze put the Cougars in front. Zach Joe's RBI single delivered the final run.
Montclair State responded with a four-run seventh. Labbe knotted the score at 4-4 with a two-run triple and
DONALD GONNELLI singled to left for 5-4 Red Hawk advantage.
ANDREW OLLWERTHER doubled in Gonnelli as MSU led by two.
LoGiudice cut that lead to a run in the seventh with an RBI single before Kean put together its rally in the eighth taking a 9-6 lead. The Red Hawks got a run closer in the ninth as Bates singled home

Reliever Justin Hernandez (1-0) picked up the win as he recorded the final eight outs. Junior
BRIAN REISS (2-3) took the loss. Labbe, Ollwerther and
NICK MARTINEZ each had two hits for MSU.
Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, April 20 with an NJAC doubleheader against New Jersey City University. The twinbill will be played at Yogi Berra Stadium beginning at 1:00 pm with the Gothic Knights serving as the home team for both contests.
