MADDIE FREEMAN and
LINSEY CHAMPA each had goals for the Red Hawks, who recorded their third straight victory against the Engineers (0-2). Montclair leads the all-time series, 12-2.
Montclair shut down the RPI offense allowing just four shots in the game, all of them in the fourth quarter. Still the Red Hawks found themselves in a scoreless game until 6:28 left in the first period. Watson took a pass from
ELIZABETH CIMILLUCA off a penalty corner and ripped a shot from the top of the circle inside the left post for the game's first goal.
The one-goal lead would hold up thanks in part to RPI keeper Jen Richardson who made 17 saves in the game, including nine in the first half.
Freeman extended the lead four minutes into the second half as she jammed in a pass from Watson. Champa followed six minutes later with her first collegiate tally. A ball from the right side deflected off a defender right in front of the cage. Champa alertly tapped the carom into the cage for a 3-0 Montclair advantage.
STEPHANIE BOETTGER set up Yonah for the first of the latter's two goals giving the Red Hawks a four-goal advantage. RPI would get on the board with 9:21 left as Katina Shiomos connected from the top right side of the arc knocking in a rebound off a save by MSU's
BRENNA MILLER. Yonah put the exclamation point on the win with 4:07 left finishing off a feed from freshman
MELISSA PALLEN.
Montclair outshot the Engineers 25-4 in the contest.
