Men's Soccer: Gameday Preview vs. Rutgers-Newark

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's soccer team closes out the regular season to host Rutgers-Newark Wednesday evening.
 
GAME INFO
The first kick at MSU Soccer Park is scheduled for 7 pm, with live stats and video links available on montclairathletics.com. Video can also be found on the Red Hawk Sports Network YouTube Channel.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Red Hawks (16-1-1, 8-0 NJAC) blanked CCNY 7-0 Monday evening. EDWIN MELENDEZ netted a hat-trick, while EVAN CHACON, SEAN MILELLI, REED KARSEN, and CHRISTIAN BERNAL tallied goals in the win. ANDRES LEZME, JULIAN GUZMAN, and CHARLIE REVY combined on the shutout.

SCOUTING THE SCARLET RAIDERS
The Scarlet Raiders enter with an 11-4-3 record and 4-1-3 in the NJAC. They are coming off a 2-1 setback against Rutgers-Camden, which snapped a 12-match unbeaten streak. Franco Catania tallied a penalty kick goal in the 43rd minute.
 
LAST MEETING
Montclair earned a 3-0 victory over Rutgers-Newark on October 5, 2019. JUSTIN GOLDBERG beat the half-time buzzer and scored to make the game 2-0, a lead the Red Hawks did not relinquish. Oscar Sanchez and ERICK CHICAS also added goals in the victory.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Montclair is 35-10-2 all-time against their county rivals. They won 17 consecutive matches from November 3, 1984 – September 20, 2000. They opened the series by dropping six of the first meetings before reeling off the 17 straight.

Montclair State earned the No. 1 seed in the week's NJAC Tournament and will face the winner of the 4/5 matchup on Wednesday evening at MSU Soccer Park.
