Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men and women's swimming and diving teams picked up victories over Vassar College Saturday in the home opener at the Panzer Pool.
The men's team (2-2) won 160-135, while the women's side (3-1) notched a 162.5-135.5 victory.
Rookie
AMBER ROCHELEAU notched victories in the 200-IM (2:16.22) and the 200-freestyle (2:01.17), while sophomore
LIDIA BOGUSLAWSKA took first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.4) and second in both the 50-free (25.95) and 100-free (56.94). The 50-free and the 100-freestyle were the closest finishes of the day, with the top-three spots in the 100-free separated by .52 seconds and the 50-free by .16 seconds. Boguslawska and Alanna Muello finished in identical 56.94, splitting the points in the race.
JULIE TIEDEMANN won the 1,000-freestyle in 11:34.89, while rookie
ABBY BROCK and
CAMRYN VOGEL went 1-2 in the 100-breaststroke. Brock took first in 1:12.32 while Vogel was behind her in 1:15.25.
EMILY ROTHAMEL was a winner in the 200-back, clocking in at 2:12.23, just .12 seconds ahead of her Vassar opponent.
TAYLOR WADDLETON grabbed first in the 500-free in 5:31.41, as Tiedemann was third in 5:33.25.
HANNAH GEIB won the first section of diving before taking second in the second session.
On the men's side,
SPENSER DUBOIS won two events and took second in the two others. He won the 100-breaststroke (1:00.36) and was part of the 200-medley relay team with
DENNIS DELARGY,
TYLER DORSETT, and
LUCAS GOMES (1:38.91). Rookie
BRANDON DO matched Dubois with two victories and two second-place times. Do won the 200-breaststroke (2:13.09) as he edged Dubois before winning the 200-IM (2:02.91). The foursome of Do, Gomes,
RYAN KAPPES, and
GREG KARBACK was second in the 400-free relay (3:23.4) while Do also took second in the 100-breast (1:01.35).
Kappes was second in the 1,000-free (10:16.31), while DeLargy and
JUSTIN CONILLAS went 1-2 in the 100-back. Dorsett grabbed a first-place mark of 2:01.55 in the 200-fly while Gomes and
JOHN ENGLERT went 1-2 in the 100-fly. Gomes notched a time of 53.35 while Englert touched the wall in 54.73.
ALEX PALLEN won the second session of diving with a score of 210.25 after placing second in the opening one.
The Red Hawks resume NJAC action next Saturday as they host Rowan University at 12 pm.
