Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State field hockey team begins its 2021 schedule on Wednesday, September 1, the first of 16 games this season for the Red Hawks.
Montclair's season opener will be at Sprague Field on the 1st as MSU hosts New Paltz. The two have squared off in 18 of the last 21 years, including 11 straight until it was interrupted in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. Montclair has captured the last meeting in 2019 and posted a 2-1 triumph in 2018 at Sprague Field.
The Red Hawks will also be at home on Saturday, September 4 against Cortland and head out on the road for the first time on September 8 at Stevens. Montclair State takes on Rhodes College of Tennessee under the lights on Friday, September 10. It will be the third meeting with the Lynx and the first since a 4-1 victory in the 2015 campaign. The other came in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament, a game won by MSU, 3-2 in double-overtime.
Montclair battles Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY on September 15, looking to avenge a pair of 1-0 losses to the Brewers in 2018 and 2019. The Red Hawks are at Gwynedd-Mercy on September 18 and comes home on September 22 for a matchup with in-state rival FDU-Florham, coached by former Red Hawk Mo Johnston.
It will be a first-time meeting with Williams College at Sprague Field on September 26 with Montclair ending the month on the road at DeSales University on September 29.
MSU begins its NJAC schedule on Friday, October 1 at Rowan University and meets local rival and defending NJAC champion William Paterson at home on October 6. Montclair battles Lebanon Valley College on October 9 and then has the week off until its returns to play October 16 versus York (PA). The Red Hawks and Spartans meet for the third time, the previous contests each needing extra time to declare a winner. Montclair won a 3-2 matchup in 2018 and posted a 1-0 shootout victory in 2019.
The Red Hawks closed out the schedule with its final three conference contests, the first two away from home. Montclair State goes to Union on October 19 and will be at Stockton on October 23. MSU's final regular-season game is set for October 30 at home against The College of New Jersey.
The NJAC Field Hockey championship begins with semifinal action on Wednesday, November 3. The championship game is Saturday, September 6, with the winner earning the NJAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship.
