Montclair, NJ - Football senior
MIKE RAMOS and field hockey freshman
GAB MAISTO were named as the MSU Athletes of the Week for September 20.
Ramos, the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week, racked up a career-best 13 tackles in the Red Hawks contest with Salve Regina on Saturday, including nine solo stops. He also picked off a pass and forced a fumble. Ramos' pick in the end zone during the second quarter helped thwart a Salve drive and his forced fumble led to an MSU recovery. The Red Hawk capitalized with a touchdown off the turnover pulling within 24-21 with 4:24 left.
Ramos is currently ranked 11th in the league in tackles (6.7) and is sixth in passes defended. He is tied for the league lead in fumbles forced and interceptions.
Maisto, the NJAC Rookie of the Week, tallied three goals and two assists while taking eight shots on goal in a 1-1 week for the Red Hawks. She opened the week with an assist in the 3-2 setback to nationally-ranked Vassar Wednesday evening. Her assist on
CARLIE VAN TASSEL's goal trimmed the deficit in the game to 2-1.
On Saturday, the Fairfield, NJ native had a big game against Gwynedd Mercy, registering three goals and a helper in a 5-0 victory. She snapped a scoreless game in the 33rd minute, as she converted a feed from
CARLEE THOMPSON to give MSU a lead they would not give up. She had a hand in all three fourth-quarter tallies, notching two goals and an assist.
With her three-goal effort, she became the first Red Hawk since Kelly Watson on October 4, 2019, to record a hat trick in a game, and the first since Kaitlyn Struss on September 4, 2015, to record seven points in a game.
