No. 8 Red Hawks Look to Move to 3-0

Montclair, NJ - The No. 8 Montclair State men's soccer team finishes off the Athey Cup as they play host Washington College Sunday.

PRESEASON RANKING
When the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll was released on August 4, the Red Hawks were chosen eighth in the country. They were one of two New Jersey Athletic Conference teams in the top-25, joining Rowan, who slotted in at No. 15.
 
LAST TIME OUT
On the opening day of the Athey Cup, the Red Hawks blanked DeSales University 2-0. IAN CHESNEY bagged his first career goal in the fourth minute before rookie AMER LUKOVIC doubled the advantage in the 28th minute. Goalkeeper ANDRES LEZME made a pair of saves late to preserve the shutout in his first career start.

The Shoremen are 2-0 on the season, knocking off both Salisbury and Rutgers-Newark. They opened the season with a 3-0 win over Salisbury before knocking off Rutgers-Newark 3-2 Saturday. James Strine had a goal and an assist in the Scarlet Raiders game. In that matchup, they trailed 2-1 before tallying two goals in 1:51.
 
LAST MEETING
The two sides last linked up in 2001, with Montclair winning 3-2 in overtime. Osei Bonsu scored twice before Matt Caswell won the game on a direct kick in the 98th minute to give MSU the 3-2 lead.
 
SERIES HISTORY

The Red Hawks and Shoremen have split the previous two meetings. Washington College earned its only win in 1999, winning 2-0 down in Chestertown, MD.
