Track & Field Posts AARTFC Qualifying Times In Season Opener

Staten Island, NY – The Montclair State indoor track & field teams opened their campaign at the Seahawk Shootout Friday afternoon.

MEN'S RESULTS

JOHN GRIFFITH, who narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships last winter, notched a qualifying throw for the AARTFC Indoor Regionals in the shot put. The junior reached 15.01m, well above the 13.85m mark needed and placing third overall.
SAMAEL MILEVOIX broke his own school record in the 300-meter dash, hitting a new low mark of 35.91. The sophomore set the previous record of 36.22 at the Seahawk Shootout last December.
In the field events, the Red Hawks set a couple of personal bests. BECK DEENY hit top marks in the long jump (6.13m) and the triple jump (12.97m), with KEYSHAWN DIXON also setting a new PR in the long jump (6.06m).
Additionally, MATTHEW HAILU broke his previous bests in the shot put (11.93), and weight throw (12.17m) as Na'Im Kinsey took ninth in the shot (13.11m).

WOMEN'S RESULTS

Newcomer TANIYA GILES joined Griffith in qualifying for regionals, placing second in the shot put with a toss of 12.09m. That mark surpassed the 11.5m needed to be eligible for Regionals.
Fellow newcomer MICHELLE ITOUA ran an 8.31 in the 60-meter, while SIDNEY WHETSTONE took 16th in the long jump with a leap of 4.86m.
MIA PEGUERO was 19th in the triple jump (9.45m), with TARA MASTROIANNI posting top-25 throws in the shot put (9.56m) and weight throw (10.61m).

UP NEXT
The Red Hawks return to the track on January 20, competing in the NYC Gotham Cup at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Center.
