Montclair, NJ – The No. 5 Montclair State University men's soccer team hosts Christopher Newport in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament on Sunday

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Hawks (18-2-1, 9-0-0 NJAC) blanked Elmira College 2-0 in Saturday's First Round of the NCAA Tournament. AMER LUKOVIC tallied the opening marker in the 13th minute off a long-distance pass from ENIR RADONCIC. The junior added to his total, drawing a foul in the box late in the contest. Stepping up to the penalty spot, Lukovic buried the kick, cementing the 2-0 victory.

NJAC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS
The Red Hawks dispatched Rowan University 4-2 to claim the 15th New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship in program history. After trailing 1-0 at halftime, ENIR RADONCIC headed in the tying marker in the 51st minute before AMER LUKOVIC scored 76 seconds later. REED KARSEN made it 3-1 in the 61st minute before the Profs cut the lead in half. With time ticking away, Lukovic bagged his second goal of the game, cementing the 4-2 triumph.

SCOUTING CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT
The Captains, who boasted the highest strength of schedule in the country, went 11-4-2 on the year and advanced to the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Semifinals. Christopher Newport is making the team's fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 14th all-time in program history. The Captains have advanced to the second round in five consecutive postseason showings and have won at least one game in the postseason in ten of the previous 13 NCAA appearances. 

CNU FIRST ROUND
The Captains took down Manhattanville College 4-1 in their First Round matchup. CNU opened the scoring a mere 1:19 into the game, where Jonathon Leiding scored. The score remained the same at the half, but the Captains netted their second goal 29 ticks into the second stanza. After a third goal, Manhattanville dug into the lead with a penalty kick. Christopher Newport polished off the scoring with 49 seconds left for the final margin.

SERIES HISTORY
In the only previous meeting, Christopher Newport downed Montclair 5-1 in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament in 2016. The Captains opened the scoring in the second minute before Mike Olla converted a feed from Kevin Simek 78 seconds later. CNU took the lead for good in the ninth minute before adding three second-half tallies.

UP NEXT
The winner of this matchup faces Connecticut College in the Sectional Semifinal next weekend at a date and time to be announced.
