Swimming & Diving Opens Up At Gettysburg Invitational

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University swimming & diving teams opened up competition at the Gettysburg Invitational on Friday.

After 10 events, the women's team is fifth with 146 points, and the men's side is fourth with 142.

HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN)

The foursome of LUCAS GOMES, MICHAEL WOJCIECHOWICZ, ANTHONY FERRARO, and SPENSER DUBOIS turned in a fifth-place time of 1:28.32 in the 200 freestyle. RYAN KAPPES (4:54.78) and LUCAS MIGLIN (4:56.50) went back-to-back in the 500-free, with Kappes missing a top-10 mark by a 1:34. Ferraro also registered a top-20 time, finishing 19th in 5:00.03.
Dubois clocked in at 1:59.43, which was good for eighth in the 200-IM, as BRANDON DO (2:03.09), JOHN MORRIS (2:03.72), and Miglin (2:04.33) were 12th, 13th, and 14th, respectively. JARED GAYNOR (2:04.52) and JOHN ENGLERT (2:06.31) also recorded top-20 times.
Gomes turned in a fourth-place time in the 50-free, touching the wall in 21.57 while missing first by .39. Wojciechowicz was 10th in 22.19, while DENNIS DELARGY finished 15th in 22.79. The team closed out the event in the 400-medley relay as Gomes, Dubois, Englert, and Matthew Dettlinger were sixth in 3:35.3.

HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN)

ROURKE PERALTA, SOPHIA SHOPOVICK, ABBY BROCK, and JULIANA SKOPP-CARDILLO started the night strong, taking third in the 200-free relay in 1:40.24. JULIE TIEDEMANN (5:26.09) and KACIE GADZINSKI (5:29.89) tallied top-15 marks in the 500-free.
Rookie MARIANNE TASSINARI notched a fourth-place time of 2:13.4 in the 200-IM, as CATTY GEYER was 10th in 2:17.74. ABBY PANZARELLA was 14th in 2:19.15, with LILI SHAY clocking in at 2:20.46 in the same event.
Peralta grabbed a third-place time in the 50-free, touching the wall in 24.05. She was a mere .41 seconds away from the top spot. Shopovick (25.56), Brock (25.73), and MADDY WISHNOW (25.85) posted top-15 marks as well.
The foursome of Shopovick, Brock, Geyer, and Peralta took fifth in the 400-medley relay, finishing in 4:06.19.

UP NEXT
The Red Hawks will compete in two meets tomorrow. The divers will head to the TCNJ Diving Invitational in the afternoon as the swimmers close out the Gettysburg Invitational at 9 am.
