Women's Swimming & Diving Sweeps Rowan And Ramapo

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University women's swimming and diving teams took down New Jersey Athletic Conference foes Rowan University and Ramapo College on Friday evening. 

Montclair topped Rowan 173-87 and Ramapo 207-53. The victory over Rowan was just the 10th in program history and the first since January 17, 2015. ROURKE PERALTA broke the Panzer Pool record in the 50-free for the third time this season, setting a new mark of 24.04.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks opened the meet with a victory in the 200-medley relay as SOPHIA SHOPOVICK, ABBY BROCK, MADELINE ROGERS, and ROURKE PERALTA finished in 1:50.97. JULIE TIEDEMANN (11:07.59) and KACIE GADZINSKI (11:11.74) went 1-2 in the 1,000-free as MARIANNE TASSINARI won the 200-free in 2:00.71. Tiedemann was .2 seconds behind her 2:01.01.
  • Shopovick was clipped by .51 ticks in the 50-back, settling for second in 27.98. Brock (31.39) and LILI SHAY (32.33) claimed the top two marks in the 50-breaststroke, as Rogers was third in the 100-fly (1:01.37).
  • Peralta easily won the 50-free as she took first by over a second before returning to win the 100-free in 53.98. Teammate JULIANA SKOPP-CARDILLO was second in 55.91. Shopovick grabbed second in the 100-back in 1:00.86, with Brock (1:08.96), Shay (1:10.35), and Tassinari (1:11.19) earning the top three times in the 100-back.
  • Tiedemann was second in the 500 free in 5:24.89 as Peralta notched her third win of the day in the 50-fly in 26.62. Tassinari took first in the 200-IM (2:13.38) before the 200-freestyle relay team of Skopp-Cardillo, MADDY WISHNOW, Rogers, and Tassinari won in 1:42.63.

"It was an exciting way to wrap up the first half of the season. The buy in from our swimmers is really beginning to show; the training has been great and it showed tonight against two formidable opponents." Head Coach Brian McLaughlin. 
 
UP NEXT
After a winter training trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Red Hawks return to action on January 20 to battle the Coast Guard at 1 pm.
