Baseball Topples McDaniel In Season-Opener, 25-3

Aberdeen, Md. – SAM ANGELO homered and drove in three runs as the Montclair State baseball team pounded 26 hits to top McDaniel 25-3 in the season-opener Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (1-0) scored three times in the bottom of the second to take the lead. MATT KALISKE led off with a single and moved to third on a MICHAEL MURPHY double. ANTHONY GUARINO came up two batters later and hit a sacrifice fly, plating Kaliske. RYAN MCKENNA and MILES FEASTER finished off the scoring with consecutive RBI singles.
  • Montclair State exploded for eight runs on six hits in the third frame. They loaded the bases without a hit before JASON MOORE, and Guarino delivered RBI knocks. After two strikeouts, Feaster had a two-run single, with PETER COSENTINO bringing in a run on with a hit to right-center. The big blow of the inning came from Angelo, who delivered a three-run bomb to left-center field.
  • The Green Terror chipped away at the lead with two in the top of the fifth, but Kaliske answered back with an RBI double in the home half of the inning.
  • Montclair State added to their advantage with nine runs on 11 hits in the seventh. Feaster recorded an RBI double, with Moore and Guarino bringing men home with singles. In a pinch-hitting role, JOE GISONDA crushed a two-run homer before Cosentino polished the inning off with a two-run knock to right-center.
  • The Red Hawks finished the scoring in the bottom of the eighth, with XANDER NABORS drawing a bases-loaded walk and Cosentino and MATTEO PASCULLI driving in runs with a hit by pitch.
