Baseball Takes Down Kean in NJAC Action

Union, NJ – The Montclair State baseball team tallied an 8-2 triumph over New Jersey Athletic Conference foe Kean University Thursday afternoon.

The Red Hawks (22-9, 9-6 NJAC) received three RBI from RYAN MCKENNA in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks broke through for a run in the second, as ANTHONY GUARINO's ground ball turned into a double-play but allowed ZACH STEARNS to score. Starter JACK HAVESON walked the leadoff man in the second but turned a 6-4-3 double play to erase the runner.
  • REECE MALEK led off the third with a single, and after a McKenna walk, SAM ANGELO singled down the left-field line, doubling the advantage. The Cougars, who were held hitless until the fifth inning, cut the deficit in half with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Montclair State broke the game open in the seventh, erupting for four runs. JOE GISONDA led off with a double, but the next two hitters were retired. McKenna doubled Gisonda home, and after an intentional walk to Angelo, MILES FEASTER, MATTEO PASCULLI, and JASON MOORE notched consecutive run-scoring singles to make it 6-1.
  • Kean dug into the deficit in the bottom with a run in the seventh, and Montclair finished the scoring in the eighth. Gisonda and Guarino singled, and both runners moved up on a fielder's choice by Malek. McKenna singled through the right side, allowing Gisonda and Guarino to score safely.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • McKenna, Angelo, and Feaster had two hits at the top of the lineup, as the top four hitters had at least one RBI.
  • Gisonda went 3-for-5 with two doubles.
  • Haveson moved to 2-0 on the season, scattering three hits with five strikeouts. PATRICK TEEHAN, MICHAEL TIMBERLAKE, and MATT PONTARI allowed one over the final four frames.
