Baseball Upended By DeSales In Non-Conference Action

Center Valley, Pa. - The Montclair State baseball team was topped by DeSales University 13-5 in their non-conference finale Monday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bulldogs wasted little time, scoring seven runs in the first and twice in the third to open up a 9-0 advantage after three frames. DeSales added a single run in the sixth, pushing the margin double-digits.
  • DeSales capped off their scoring in the seventh, plating three runs to make it 13-5. NICK DESIDERIO pitched a shutout eighth inning, and the Red Hawks (14-4) staged a small rally in the ninth.
  • The Red Hawks loaded the bases in the ninth and scratched their first run of the day home on a fielder's choice from MATT KALISKE. A walk to ETHAN SARMIENTO filled bases again, and XANDER NABORS crushed a pitch beyond the left-field wall, making it 13-5 on the grand slam. Montclair could not get any closer as the final two hitters were retired.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Nabors was the lone Red Hawk with multiple hits, and the home run was the first of his career. The grand slam was the first by a Red Hawk since Chris Roth hit one against Fredonia on March 10, 2017.
  • MATTHEW TIPLADY and MICHAEL TODARO each struck out four.
