2022-23 Season In Review: Track & Field

Montclair, NJ – ANTHONY DIMAULO and JOHN GRIFFITH qualified for the NCAA Championships to highlight top performances from the Montclair State track & field teams during 2022-23.
 
WOMEN'S INDOOR RECAP
Rookies MICHELLE ITOUA and TANIYA GILES made immediate impacts on the team, with Itoua winning the 200-meter dash at the Monmouth Winter Invitational. Giles was equally impressive, claiming an NJAC Rookie of the Week award after finishing second in the shot put at the same event. The Red Hawks claimed fifth at the NJAC Indoor Championships behind second-place marks from SIDNEY WHETSTONE (long jump) and Giles (shot put), with the 4x200 relay (Itoua, Whetstone, ALEXA ALI, and JEALYNE RAMOS) gaining Honorable Mention.
 
MEN'S INDOOR RECAP
SAMAEL MILEVOIX and OWEN FOGARTY established new school records during the indoor season. Milevoix re-broke his own mark in 300-meter during the season-opening Seahawk Shootout as Fogarty surpassed Max Greenwood's mark with a new height of 4.57m. After winning the NJAC Indoor Championship in the shot put, Griffith punched his ticket to the NCAA Indoor Championships and was seeded sixth with a distance of 16.59m. He finished 18th overall, hitting 15.16m during the Championship Meet.

WOMEN'S OUTDOOR RECAP
Itoua established a new-school standard at the NJAC Outdoor Championships, breaking an 11-year mark previously held by Ashley Powell. The rookie turned in a time of 12.39, which qualified her for the AARTFC Outdoor Championships. MIA PEGUERO grabbed fourth in the triple jump (10.78), as Giles tallied top-seven marks in the discus (33.69m) and shot put (11.65m). BRIANNA RODDY had a strong showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, placing fourth in 12:45.22. The Red Hawks sent three competitors to the AARTFC Outdoor Championships in Itoua (100-meter), Giles (shot put), and Peguero (triple jump).
 
MEN'S OUTDOOR RECAP
DiMaulo qualified for his first NCAA Championship as he won the long jump at the AARTFC Outdoor Championships. He set a venue record in the long jump with a distance of 7.36m and vaulted up 29 spots to 14th overall in the country. He finished 11th overall, reaching 7.12m, and missed the finals by a mere .07m. JABEZ THOMAS and JOHN GRIFFITH notched top-10 marks at the AARTFC Championships, with the men's team finishing third as a unit at the NJAC Outdoor Championships. Griffith led the Red Hawks with three podium marks, with Thomas claiming first in the triple jump (14.5m). After breaking the pole vault record during the indoor campaign, Fogarty took down Jaimie Diaz's previous mark of 4.57m (1990) with a new standard of 4.75m.
