Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University field hockey team opens the 2023 campaign against Cortland on Friday afternoon.

2022 REWIND
After dropping the first four games, Montclair reeled off six consecutive wins. They opened the streak with a 4-0 triumph over then nationally-ranked Vassar and finished it with a 2-1 victory over Ramapo in their NJAC opener. During the run, Montclair edged Stevens 2-1 in overtime on a penalty stroke conversion from CARLIE VAN TASSEL before closing out the non-conference slate with a 4-0 win over FDU-Florham in late October.

SCOUTING CORTLAND
The Red Dragons went 14-5 last season, claiming the SUNYAC Championship with a 2-1 overtime victory over Geneseo in the finals. They also qualified for the NCAA Tournament, falling to MIT 4-1 in the First Round.

SERIES HISTORY
Montclair is 7-5 all-time against Cortland but had their seven-game winning streak snapped in their last meeting in 2021. Since 2012, the two sides have played every season except 2016, 2020, and 2022.

LAST MEETING
The Red Hawks fell 3-1 to Cortland on September 4, 2021. CARLIE VAN TASSEL opened the scoring in the 16th minute off a feed from LINSEY CHAMPA before the Red Dragons scored goals in the second, third, and fourth periods. LAUREN PICKUL made seven saves in the setback.
