New London, Conn. – The Montclair State University women's swimming & diving team fell to the United States Coast Guard Academy 158-119 on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- OLIVIA SALMONS posted victories in the sections of diving, scoring 179.40 points in the opener before tallying 186.75 later on. The Red Hawks took second in the 200-medley relay, as SOPHIA SHOPOVICK, ABBY BROCK, MADELINE ROGERS, and ROURKE PERALTA turned in a time of 1:52.68.
- JULIE TIEDEMANN started the individual events with a victory, winning the 1,000-free in 11:02.67. The junior edged second place by a mere .08 seconds. Shopovick grabbed second in the 100-back, touching the wall in 1:01.59.
- Peralta notched a win in the 50-free, as they clocked in at 24.91, nearly a second faster than second. MARIANNE TASSINARI (2:15.3), CATTY GEYER (2:20.08), and LILI SHAY (2:21.15) claimed the top-three spots in the 200-IM before the 200-free relay squad of Brock, Tiedemann, Rogers, and Tassinari won in 1:44.71.

"We knew heading into this that the Coast Guard had a slight advantage across the board in both quality and depth, and it played out that way. We had some good (event) wins today, just not enough. I hope with a bit of rest we bounce back and swim well vs TCNJ in a week." Head Coach Brian McLaughlin.
