Women's Swimming & Diving Downs William Paterson

Wayne, NJ – The Montclair State University women's swimming & diving team downed in-state rival William Paterson 119-54 on Tuesday evening.

The Red Hawks (10-2) notched double-digit victories for the first time since 1985-86 and just the fourth time overall. The 10 wins are tied for the second-most in a single season, matching the 1981-82 and 1985-86 teams. The record for wins in a season remains at 11, held by the 1984-85 team.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Red Hawks started on the right foot as they claimed the top three spots in the 200-medley relay. ABBY PANZARELLA, SYDNEY MCGANN, CATTY GEYER, and ROURKE PERALTA were first in 1:56.71, as SOPHIA SHOPOVICK, KACIE GADZINSKI, MARIANNE TASSINARI, and ABBY BROCK were behind them in 2:00.66. The final foursome of GIOVANNA CASTELLAN, SADIE CRISPELL, LILI SHAY, and MADDY WISHNOW was third in 2:04.92.
JULIE TIEDEMANN picked up a triumph in the 1,650-free (18:32.54) before Geyer (2:03.65), MADELINE ROGERS (2:06.8), and Gadzinski (2:07) went 1-2-3 in the 200-freestyle. The team's victories continued to pile up, with JULIANA SKOPP-CARDILLO winning the 50-free in 25.96. Shopovick was behind her, placing second in 26.52.
Tassinari notched a victory in the 200-IM (2:17.67), with Brock (2:23.64) and SARAH BENT (2:30.92) in second and third. The rookie also registered a win in the 100-back (1:02.88). McGann posted her first individual win in the 100-fly (1:04.52) before Wishnow claimed first in the 100-free (58.65). Wishnow edged Shopovick by a mere .06 seconds to secure first.
