Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University Department of Athletics announced the hiring of Dwight Ceballo as the new Academic Advisor for Athletics.

Ceballo brings a critical background in Mental Health Counseling with a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Forensic Psychology from Montclair State University. He also brings to the table his athletic background as a former Division I soccer player at the University of Connecticut. While at UConn, he was a three-year letter winner, appearing in 21 contests from 2012 – 2014, and was a General Psychology major with a minor in Sociology and Political Science.
He also has several published peer review publications and presentations about mental health, and his background and knowledge in the field comes at a crucial time for student-athlete well-being. Ceballo worked for four years at the Albert "Bo" Robinson Assessment and Treatment Center as a Clinical Researcher and Group Counselor in Trenton and as a Group Counselor with the Community Psychiatric Institute in East Orange.
The Trinidad native has served as an Athlete Success Coach and Advisor with Advance Training in Roseland since 2019, assisting potential student-athletes with NCAA legislation. Ceballo created workshops on different topics such as anxiety stress management techniques, goal-setting, and enhancing communication skills.
Ceballo is working towards a certificate in Academic Advising from the University of Montana. A native of Arouca, Trinidad, Ceballo was a member of the Trinidad and Tobago U15, U16, U17 and U20 National Teams. He competed with St. Anthony's College in the Trinidad Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) and was named MVP of the 2011 SSFL, in addition to being chosen as the 2010 Trinidad SSFL Defender of the Year. Ceballo starts at Montclair on January 16, and his office will be located in the Academic Center for Excellence, Room 111.
