Montclair, NJ - Montclair State University Athletics announced the hire of Alexander Taylor as its new Head Coach for Men's & Women's Swimming on Tuesday afternoon.

Taylor joins the Red Hawks after serving as the Head Coach at Misericordia University for the past seven years. During his time with the Cougars, Taylor amassed a 57-7 women's record and 40-19 men's record while being named the Middle Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year in 2020 and 2026.

"We were excited to have Alexander join our department," Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics & Recreation Rob Chesney said. "He brings a wealth of experience and success, and we are excited to have him lead our student-athletes and the swimming program."

In his first season at Misericordia, Taylor led the women's team to a 10-1 record en route to a runner-up finish at the 2020 MAC Championships. His women's team in 2022-23 amassed its first unbeaten regular season in school history, and repeated the achievement during the 2024-25 campaign.

Taylor guided Misericordia's women's team to top-four finishes at MAC Championships every year of his tenure, including a pair of runner-up finishes in 2019-20 and 2025-26. His men's team achieved a third place finish in his last season with the Cougars. On an individual level, he helped guide a student-athlete to All-American honors in 2020.

Out of the pool, both Misericordia's men's and women's teams were recognized for academic excellence by earning Scholar All-American Status.

Prior to Misericordia, Taylor spent three seasons as an Assistant Coach at Mount St. Mary's (MD), where he helped establish the men's swimming program. He helped nine student-athletes qualify for the CSCAA National Invitational Championship with all three teams earning Scholar All-America Status.

During his collegiate career, Taylor was a four-year letterman at SUNY-Potsdam along with a two-year captain. Across his career, he set seven school records and was a four-time SUNYAC champion along with being named the 2012 SUNYAC Most Outstanding Swimmer. He was inducted into the SUNY Potsdam Hall of Fame in 2021.
