Kappes Sets School-Record In 400-IM at NJAC Championships

College Park, Md. – RYAN KAPPES set the school record in the 400-IM to highlight top performances during the third day of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Kappes set his mark during the preliminary round of the 400-IM as he took eighth at 4:09.42. He bested the previous mark of 4:10.66, which Billy Blomn set during the 1995 Metropolitan Championships. In the finals, Kappes placed eighth with a time of 4:12.09.
The Red Hawks had three qualify for the finals in the 100-butterfly. LUCAS GOMES took fourth in 50.46, as JOHN ENGLERT (52.18) and ADRIAN GONZALEZ (54.27) made the "C" finals.
SPENSER DUBOIS narrowly missed a third-place mark in the 100-breast, getting edged by .04 while settling for fourth in 55.68. TRISTAN LEE (59.21) and MATT DETTLINGER (59.5) went back-to-back, as BRANDON DO was 21st in 59.96.
DENNIS DELARGY took eighth in the 100-backstroke (52.81) as ANTHONY FERRARO (1:45.81), MICHAEL WOJCIECHOWICZ (1:46.01), and LUCAS MIGLIN (1:47.02) qualified for the "C" finals in the 200-free.
Joining Kappes in the finals of the 400-IM were JOHN MORRIS (4:15.5) and JARED GAYNOR (4:20.24), while the 200-freestyle relay team of Gomes, Dettlinger, DeLargy, and Wojciechowicz were seventh in 1:26.43.

The Red Hawks wrap up the NJAC Championships tomorrow, with the preliminary round starting at 9:30 am and the finals beginning at 5:30 pm.
