Baseball Blanks Mount Aloysius at Ripken Experience

Aberdeen, MD The Montclair State University baseball team blanked Mount Aloysius 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Ripken Experience.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (1-1) saw a strong start from JACK HAVESON, who struck out three of the four batters he faced in the top of the first inning. He followed that up with a strikeout in each of the next two innings.
  • With the game scoreless in the bottom of the third, Montclair put two runners on base, as JARED LEVIS walked and MARCUS JOHNSON reached on an error. The next at-bat, SAM ANGELO tripled to left center, driving both home for the game's first runs.
  • The Mounties threatened in the next frame, as they put runners on first and second with only one out. Haveson was able to get the next two outs on a fly-out and a fielder's choice to get out of the jam. The senior allowed only one more baserunner the rest of his outing.
  • MATT PONTARI entered the contest in the seventh inning and struck out the side. In the bottom portion of the stanza, RYAN MCKENNA scored from third after Mount Aloysius caught a runner stealing second.
  • With two runners in scoring position in the top of the eighth, Pontari recorded another strikeout to end the frame. McKenna drove in a run in the bottom of the eighth to give the Red Hawks a four-run advantage.
  • After the Mounties put two of the first three batters on base, Montclair recorded the final two outs of the afternoon to maintain the shutout.
