Baseball Tops McDaniel to Close Maryland Slate

Aberdeen, MD The Montclair State University baseball team surpassed McDaniel College 10-6 on Sunday afternoon at Ripken Experience.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (2-1) tallied three runs in the bottom of the first inning. After back-to-back walks, MILES FEASTER doubled to drive in SAM ANGELO and RYAN MCKENNA. Feaster advanced to third later in the inning on a wild pitch, and ZACH STEARNS singled to bring home the third run of the stanza.
  • McDaniel responded in the next inning, plating a run to cut the deficit to two. They tied the contest in the third on a two-run home run. With the Green Terror threatening in the fourth inning with runners on first and third, MICHAEL TIMBERLAKE struck out the final hitter of the frame to end the rally.
  • Montclair regained the lead in the bottom portion of the frame, as MICHAEL MURPHY drove in Stearns on a sacrifice fly to left field. Angelo reached on an error later in the inning which allowed JASON MOORE to score from third. The Red Hawks tacked on one more run to make the score 6-3 after four.
  • REECE MALEK scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning, but McDaniel responded with a run in the top of the seventh to make the margin three once again.
  • MARCUS JOHNSON doubled the advantage in the eighth on a three-run home run, and McDaniel was able to get two back in the top of the ninth, but Montclair held off the late rally.

FROM THE FIELD

"Our pitchers did a good job minimizing on Saturday and Sunday to allow us to finish the weekend on the positive side. We need to be better on defense as we move forward. A big hit by Marcus [Johnson] late was huge for this group. On to Tuesday." - Head Coach Dave Lorber
