Baseball Falls to Stevens in Nonconference Matchup

Montclair, NJ The Montclair State University baseball team fell to Stevens 14-6 on Sunday afternoon at Yogi Berra Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (12-2) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, as MATT SHUHET doubled to center field to drive in RYAN MCKENNA from second. Stevens leveled the contest on a single to left field in the following frame, and added three runs in the top of the third to take a 4-1 advantage.
  • JOE GISONDA cut the deficit to two in the bottom of the stanza on a single to center field. JASON MOORE walked during the next at-bat to load the bases with two outs, but the Ducks escaped the inning following a pitching change.
  • Stevens brought home two runs on a double in the fourth, and added another two in the fifth to expand the margin to eight. MARCUS JOHNSON singled to right field to drive in a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut into the deficit. 
  • The Ducks scored twice in both the seventh and eighth innings and added one final tally in the ninth to go up double digits. Montclair strung together a push in the bottom of the ninth, as Shuhet singled to left field to bring in the first run of the frame. Gisonda doubled to right field during the next at-bat to bring in a second marker, and Moore brought in Shuhet to make the final score 14-6.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • With a walk in the third inning, SAM ANGELO increased his on-base streak to 40 consecutive games dating back to March 24, 2023.  
  • Shuhet and Gisonda each finished with two hits and two RBI in the contest. Gisonda has recorded seven RBI over his last three games.
