Baseball Clips Drew, 10-7

Madison, NJ - The Montclair State University baseball team took down in-state rival Drew University 10-7 in non-conference action on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Scoreless through four innings, the Red Hawks (13-2) broke through in the fourth. SAM ANGELO led off the inning with a home run to center field, snapping the 0-0 affair. The Rangers leveled the game at one in the bottom of the sixth, using a two-out single up the middle for the run.
  • Montclair exploded for seven runs on just three hits to break the game open in the seventh. JASON MOORE and MATTEO PASCULLI walked to lead off the frame, with Moore scoring on an error. RYAN MCKENNA and MATT SHUHET delivered two-run doubles in the stanza before Moore capped the scoring with an RBI hit to left-center.
  • The Rangers scored twice in the seventh and got within one in the eighth, but reliever MICHAEL TODARO notched a strikeout with the tying run on second base. 
  • Consecutive sacrifice flies by JOE GISONDA and MICHAEL MURPHY in the ninth completed the scoring, and Todaro tallied two strikeouts in the ninth to seal the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • McKenna and Shuhet had two RBI as Moore joined them with two hits.
  • MATTHEW TIPLADY tossed six innings to get the win, striking out four while giving up one run.
  • Todaro registered his second of the campaign, striking out four in 1 2/3 frames.
