Thomas Named Second Team All-American At NCAA Indoor Championships

Senior Places 15th In Triple Jump

Virginia Beach, Va. – Senior JABEZ THOMAS of the Montclair State University men's indoor track & field team was named a Second Team All-American after his finish at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.

Student-athletes that place first through eighth place in an individual event will earn First Team All-American honors, while ninth through 16th in an individual event will gain Second Team All-America status.

Thomas was seeded 17th going into the event, placed 15th in the triple jump, and was the lone New Jersey Athletic Conference entry. The senior is the All-American for men's indoor track & field since George Alexandris in 2019 and the first triple jump All-American in program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Thomas competed in the first flight and was the 10th competitor to go. He hit 13.85m on his first try before reaching 13.85 on his second attempt. Needing a big jump to advance to the finals, the senior hit 13.68m on his final jump of the day.
The Kinnelon, NJ native, who joined track & field last outdoor season, missed the finals by .59m. Cole Goodman of the University of Rochester posted the top mark in the preliminary round, hitting 15.08m.

SEASON RECAP
Over his final five meets, the senior finished in the top five in the triple jump each, including three victories. In just his first season of indoor track, Thomas won an NJAC Indoor Championship by .21m over Daniel Bamfo of Farmingdale. At the AARTFC Indoor Regionals, Thomas placed second with a leap of 14.39m and was one of my five to reach 14m or longer.
