Baseball Falls to Kean

Montclair, NJ The Montclair State University baseball team fell to Kean University 12-6 on Friday afternoon at Yogi Berra Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Following a leadoff double from MICHAEL MURPHY in the bottom of the second inning, the Red Hawks (23-5, 5-2 NJAC) opened the scoring during the next at-bat on a double to left field from RYAN MCKENNA. The following at-bat, JOE GISONDA doubled to center field to drive in McKenna to double the lead.
  • The visitors leveled the contest the next inning, as a throwing error with the bases loaded plated two runs. Kean tacked on another run in the fourth to take their first lead of the contest.
  • Montclair leveled the contest in the sixth on a solo home run to right center by Gisonda. The Cougars answered in the next frame with back-to-back home runs to lead off the seventh. A solo homer to left center later in the inning made the margin five.
  • Kean continued their push in the eighth with another solo homer to make the score 9-3. The Cougars used a throwing error and two RBI singles to build a nine run advantage. After Murphy doubled in the bottom of the stanza, Gisonda launched his second home run to right center to cut the margin by two.
  • After MATT SHUHET reached on a single to left field, MILES FEASTER singled up the middle to make the score 12-6. Montclair loaded the bases with one out, but the Cougars retired the final two batters of the contest to seal the road victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Gisonda led the Red Hawks with three hits and four runs batted in, both matching his season-highs. It marked his second career multi-home run game, with both coming against Kean.
  • Murphy's double in the second inning marked the 100th hit of his collegiate career.
  • NICK DESIDERIO tallied six strikeouts in relief for Montclair, his second-highest total of the campaign.
