Galloway, NJ – The Montclair State University men's track & field team had a pair of podium finishes during the opening day of the 2024 New Jersey Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Red Hawks, who sit fourth after the first day of competition, saw JOHN GRIFFITH take second in the hammer throw. After hitting 48.21m on his first throw, the senior reached 49.88m on his second attempt. For Griffith, it was his second-best throw of the outdoor season and he was one of only two to reach 49.0m on the day.
• JABEZ THOMAS took third in the long jump. On his third jump, he crossed 6.56m to hold off teammate KEYSHAWN DIXON. The 6.56m leap was .02m off his personal best, and Dixon settled for fourth with a jump of 6.51m.
• The Red Hawks saw a pair qualify for the javelin finals. GABRIEL DAYON placed fifth (46.2m) as LEONARDO PALESCANDOLO won his flight and took eighth (41.79m). BRYCE FOSTER placed sixth in the long jump with a distance of 6.48m.
• JOSEPH BIO and COURTNEY ROGERS JR. advanced to the finals of their respective events. Bio qualified for the 400 hurdles as he placed eighth in 57.78. Rogers Jr. notched a time of 51.75 in the 400, placing eighth.
• NICHOLAS SCHAFFER narrowly missed the finals in the 400, placing 10th in 52.5. KEVIN PEREIRA (11.6) and MYLES DAY (11.61) went back-to-back in the 100, and DANIEL ALSINA (23.38) and ANTHONY HOLMES (23.41) were side-by-side in the 200.
