Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University women's soccer team travels to take on Widener on Sunday afternoon.

LAST TIME OUT
Montclair and Swarthmore played to a 1-1 draw on Friday, August 30. SALANGE BELL tallied six saves in the opening 30 minutes to keep the match level. The Red Hawks broke the scoring open shortly after, as NICOLE RICCI played a touch to AILEEN CAHILL, who slotted a through ball to KYLIE PRENDERGAST. The forward made a run towards the box, shedded a defender, and slotted a low shot into the back of the net. Swarthmore equalized in the 55th minute on a shot from the top of the 18 yard box after maneuvering around two defenders. Neither side could find the go-ahead goal late, as the game would end in a draw.

SCOUTING WIDENER
The Pride edged DeSales 2-1 to open their 2024 season on August 30. Widener compiled a 5-7-6 record during the 2023 campaign, and took a five-game unbeaten streak into the MAC Commonwealth Tournament, where they fell 2-0 to York in the Semifinals. They were selected third in the MAC Commonwealth Preseason Coaches Poll and are coached by Melissa (Koster) Franks, a former All-American and Assistant Coach at Montclair.

SERIES HISTORY
Sunday's clash will mark the first meeting between Montclair and Widener since 2000 and only the third overall. The Pride claimed the first contest 4-3 in 1998, but the Red Hawks answered with a 5-0 shutout in 2000.

LAST MEETING
The Red Hawks defeated the Pride 5-0 on September 18, 2000 in one of two all-time meetings between the two sides. 

UP NEXT
The Red Hawks will continue their season-opening road swing on September 4 as they take on New Paltz, with kickoff slated for 4:00 PM.
