LAST TIME OUT
Montclair capped off 2024 at the Gettysburg Invite on December 6 & 7, where they finished 2nd out of 6 teams with 780 points. ROURKE PERALTA continued to shine in the 50 free when she outswam 48 other competitors to take first in the event with a time of 23.65. She bested her season-best that she set earlier in the season of 23.97 and was just 0.03 seconds off from tying her school record that she set at last year's NJAC Championships which was 23.62. JULIE TIEDEMANN smashed her season-best 500 free time of 5:27.90 when she clocked a 5:12.57 that placed second. DEVYN FORD also saw a placement in the top 10 in the event when she touched the wall ninth with a personal-best time of 5:25.56. That time shattered her seed time of 5:43.50. MARIANNE TASSINARI led the way for the Red Hawks in the 200 IM. She collected a fifth-place finish and a season-best time of 2:12.81. Catharine Geyer was right at the top 10 threshold when she placed 10th with a season-best 2:14.90. Lilli Shay was just outside of the top 10 at 11, despite clocking a season-best 2:15.50. The Red Hawks saw two top-three finishes from both of their "A" relay squads. The 200 free relay squad of Peralta, SARAH FONDACARO, ABBY BROCK, and SOPHIA SHOPOVICK placed second with a time of 1:37.55. That time beat their seed time of 1:42.12. The 400 free relay quartet of Shopovick, Brock, MADELINE ROGERS, and Peralta touched the wall third with a time of 3:57.23. That time was about five seconds better than their seed time. Peralta's record broke the previous record held by Madison Franke back at the 2019 Metropolitan Championships of 52.17 when she swam a 51.54 that notched her second first-place finish of the weekend. Her swim also puts her in the top 25 in the nation in the event. Montclair also saw impressive days from ABBY BROCK and MARIANNE TASSINARI. Brock placed second in the 100 breast with a season-best time of 1:04.70 and third in the 200 breast when she clocked a season-best 2:27.62. Tassinari finished just before Brock in the 200 breast when she touched the wall second in 2:26.02, which was a season-best. She also placed third in the 400 IM with a season-best time of 4:38.52. Tassinari was followed directly by ABBY PANZARELLA and KACIE GADZINSKI, who each timed season-best marks of 4:46.76 and 4:48.40, respectively. SOPHIA SHOPOVICK also earned a second-place finish on the final day. She finished second in the 100 back with a season-best time of 59.57. Just like the individual performances, the relays were just as impressive for Montclair. The 400 relay team of Peralta, JULIA WEINREB, JULIANA SKOPP-CARDILLO, and JULIE TIEDEMANN placed first among the field with a time of 3:38.49. The Red Hawks also notched two second-place relay finishes from their "A" relay teams. The 200 medley relay team consisting of Shopovick, Brock, MADELINE ROGERS, and Peralta placed second with a time of 1:46.10 while the quartet of Tassanari, Catherine Geyer, Skopp-Cardillo, and Tiedemann notched second in the 800 free relay with a 7:59.33 in their first relay in the 800 free this season.
