LAST TIME OUT
Montclair suffered its first loss of the season in its NJAC opener at New Jersey City, 4-3. The Red Hawks fell behind early as the Gothic Knights broke the game open in the fifth minute on a long free kick from the other side of midfield that reached into the box and was flicked into goal off a header. Montclair equalized three minutes later, as KEVIN CONTRERAS fielded a throw-in and placed a pass to CARLOS BEDOYA, who bent a left-footed cross to DANNY TOBON on the far edge of the box. The forward immediately ripped a shot past the keeper to level the game. Montclair searched for the go-ahead goal in the 11th minute, as JAKE WINCHOCK and KENET LOPEZ each saw shots parried away by the Gothic Knights. The visitors continued to push offensively, amassing six shots over the next nine minutes, including a shot on frame by Contreras. NJCU took the lead in the 31st minute on a ball served into the box from the far side of the field that was headed in. The Red Hawks tied the game in the waning moments of the opening half as Bedoya served a long pass into the box that was headed past the keeper by Jermias Montero. NJCU reclaimed the advantage in the 52nd minute, as a pass threaded from the near end line that found a player on the far edge of the box, who sent a shot back towards the nearside post. The Gothic Knights doubled their advantage in the 80th minute after a one-on-one in the box that resulted in a centering pass that was ripped into the back of the net. DIEGO FLORES brought the Red Hawks within one with 25 seconds left, but Montclair couldn't equalize in the waning moments of the contest.
