Hampden, Virginia- The Montclair State Swimming and Diving team saw two records fall in one event to open up their first day of the NJAC Championships on Thursday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The lone event of the evening for Montclair was the 800 free relay where the Red Hawks broke the school's team record with a time of 6:51.09. That time was good for a fifth-place finish among the field. Representing the record-breaking performance were MICHAEL SALVATORI, BOBBY FREECE, VINCENT TERZO, and RYAN KAPPES. That broke a 12-year longstanding record that was set back at the Metropolitan Championships on February 16, 2013. That record was held by Zak Westerberg, Joseph Berry, Thomas Long, and Michael Smith.
• The other record came in the lead-off from Salvatori, who broke the 200 free record when he clocked a time of 1:41.58. He broke the record set by Hunter Romanowski (1:42.60) at the Metropolitan Championships on February 23, 2019.
• After day one, Montclair sits in fifth place with a score of 50.

• Montclair State University will have a few weeks to prepare before the four-day NJAC Championships down in Hampton, Virginia. The first day of the conference championship meet will be on Thursday, February 13.
