Baseball Defeats Maritime 12-9 For Fourth Consecutive Victory

Montclair, NJ The Montclair State University baseball team took down Maritime College 12-9 on Wednesday afternoon at Yogi Berra Stadium for its fourth-straight victory to open the 2025 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (4-0) shut down the Privateers early, as COLIN DOWLEN retired six of the seven batters he faced over the opening two frames. With runners on second and third in the bottom of the second, CHASE FISCHER slammed a double to left center to plate the game's first two runs.
  • Montclair continued their surge in the second, as JARED LEVIS singled to right field two at-bats later to drive in NOAH BRANDT from third. MICHAEL MURPHY brought in a run during the next at-bat, and MARCUS JOHNSON crushed a three-run home run to right field to make the margin eight after two innings.
  • Maritime collected six runs over the next two innings to cut the deficit to two, and after inducing an inning-ended double play in the fourth, added a seventh on a balk in the top of the fifth. The visitors continued their push in the sixth, scoring on back-to-back doubles and later plating the go-ahead run on an error.
  • The Red Hawks countered immediately in their half of the frame, as three consecutive singles led to BRODY DIERS sending the ball up the middle to score two runs to vault Montclair back into the lead.
  • TOBY SMITH entered the game in the top of the seventh and recorded back-to-back punchouts. He pitched a scoreless inning and two thirds, passing the ball off to PATRICK TEEHAN, who recorded the final out of the eighth on a groundout.
  • With two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the stanza, Levis used an infield single to drive in a run. The next at-bat, Murphy singled to left field to push the margin to three. Teehan shut the door in the ninth, striking out the side to close out Montclair's season-opening four game homestand.
