LAST TIME OUT
Montclair split its NJAC opening doubleheader with Stockton, falling 5-0 but rallying for a 3-2 game two. The game began as a pitchers' duel betweenÂ
SAGE RIZZIÂ and Nerina Tramp, with neither team recording a hit until the bottom of the fourth inning.Â
SOPHIA ALONSOÂ broke the deadlock with a leadoff single and stole second, but Montclair couldn't capitalize, leaving the game scoreless. Stockton broke through in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on two RBI doubles, a two-RBI single, and a throwing error to take a commanding 5-0 lead. The Red Hawks struggled offensively, managing just two hits in the game.Â
MARIALYS RICOURTÂ singled in the sixth but was left stranded as Montclair was unable to mount a comeback.
Stockton took an early lead in the second inning, scoring on a fielder's choice after a double and a single put runners on the corners. The Ospreys extended their lead to 2-0 in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly. Montclair responded in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs,Â
DYLAN BOLESÂ singled, andÂ
AVERY MOCHRIEÂ was hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second.Â
MOLLY COLLIGANÂ then hit a shallow fly ball to left, where a collision between the left fielder and shortstop allowedÂ
KATIE BRUNNER, who pinch-ran for Boles, to score.Â
JAYLA VASQUEZÂ followed with a deep double off the left-field wall, bringing in Colligan and Mochrie to put Montclair ahead 3-2. In the seventh, Montclair quickly secured two outs, but a Stockton pinch hitter extended the game with a single. Another single to right seemed to threaten the Red Hawks' lead, but Mochrie fielded the ball and fired a perfect throw to Colligan at third to tag out the advancing runner, sealing the NJAC victory.
