LAST TIME OUT
Montclair was bested by Kean Thursday by a score of 10-2. The Red Hawks (19-9, 5-2 NJAC) fell behind early, as the Cougars jumped out to a three-run advantage on a home run to left field. Montclair countered immediately in the bottom half of the stanza, as
ZACH STEARNS walked and
MARCUS JOHNSON singled to right field during the next at-bat to put two runners on. Two at-bats later,
MICHAEL MURPHY singled through the left side to drive in Stearns and cut the margin to two. Kean tacked on a run in the fourth, as a passed ball following a strikeout allowed a runner to come in from third. In the following frame, the Cougars used a double down the left field line along with a hit batter and single to load the bases, allowing a run to come home during the next at-bat on a fielder's choice. The visitors added four more in the sixth, a run started by a single to left field to drive in one. Kean used a triple to bring in two more, and a single during the next at-bat pushed the margin to 9-1. Montclair threatened in their half of the seventh, putting runners on second and third with two outs, but Kean induced a groundout to end the rally attempt.
JARED LEVIS led off the bottom of the eighth with a home run down the right field line, but Kean answered with a run of their own in the ninth on a single to right field to make the final margin eight.
