Ottawa, Canada- The Montclair State University football team wrapped up its non-traditional spring season by making program history by competing in its first-ever international game.
Â
The Red Hawks traveled across the northern border to Ottawa, Canada, and competed against the Ottawa Sooners, a member of the Ontario Football Conference and Canadian Junior Football League.
Â
Montclair and Ottawa played a hybrid of American and Canadian football rules to tailor to both teams. At the conclusion of the game, Montclair came away with a dominant 41-16 win and wrapped up their spring on an extremely high note.
Â
"In the rich history of Montclair State Football, it's not every day that you get to say you were part of something groundbreaking, like being on the first team to play and win internationally. This took a lot of planning and effort, but it was definitely worth it. I believe this experience has changed our players and staff for the better, and I'm excited to keep looking for ways to enhance our players' experiences," Head Coach Mike Palazzo said.
Â
The team will return for training camp in early August to prepare for the 2025 season, with the full schedule to be announced in July.
